Look at me! Totally following through.

Here's some color idears for those drawings below.

I have a fun idea: you tell me which one strikes your fancy. I even numbered them to make it extra easy. My initial idea was to make the background kind of a washed out green grey. I'm really determined to keep that umbrella in the orange family, because I used to have an orange umbrella just like that, and I miss it. It's kind of an ode to my lost orange umbrella, the droopy blue trees on Los Feliz Blvd, and my 16-year old self, since I did do a (very, very much less sophisticated) version of this back in high school.

So??

3, 7 and 7 strike my fancy. Too many?

That would be 3, 7, and 8.

Ohh they're all so lovely... Numbers 3, 5 and 6 are my favorites. Number three feels so tropical. All of them feel like one of those weird blustery days that can't decide if it's supposed to be stormy or calm. I love those days.

My two cents...

Your first sketch sets a solid stormy mood and a more "realistic" approach. The tones are strong, really selling the idea of rain, while the happiest/brightest element in the image IS the umbrella. I like that the character is much more colourful than the BG. Maybe a bit brighter, even more saturated then?

I wouldn't necessarily choose the third one, but what I like in it is the sense of light, which seems to announce the end of the storm. It feels like a specific choice, which I enjoy, and it's happier overall.

I like the harmony of the seventh sketch. This one seems less concerned with realism and ambient light and represents a more lyrical world. Here it may not even be raining... It vaguely reminds me of Bemelmans.

Fun stuff!!!

And number one.

#6 for me. #1's good too for a more subdued color scheme. It's got great mood as well.

So, #6 is in the lead, shortly followed by #3. #1 is pretty high up there too. And #5 gets no love whatsoever. Funny, I thought 7 would be more popular...

Thanks everyone for throwing your two cents in! I appreciate it.

Dearest, Ed, Portland does not suck. We are just more of a go with the flow, it will get here when it gets here, these things take time ect. ect. Actually, just kidding, I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

Brigette, holy crap, your animation is great. Chantelle and I were talking about possibly trying to get you to help us with short animated film for an album we are releasing late in 2008. But anyways...

Five all the way.
