Yeah!  Finally!  This took me forever to finish.

I couldn't decide which idea I liked better: the girls meeting the bear, or the girls riding on his back.  So I did both.  I didn't want them to have the same color scheme though, mostly cuz I think I'd get bored painting (basically) the same thing twice.  I loved this color pallet, even though it's nonsensical.  Who cares!  It feels right, that's what matters.

This painting will be on display this July at the Wonderful World of Animation, in a fairy tale themed show.  Yay!  I love fairy tales, I can't wait to see the rest of the work.  (Their website is...well, just look at it for yourself, huh?)

I think I'm going to give both paintings a glossy finish, which I usually don't do but it seems kinda appropriate for these.  Plus I understand that it enhances the color to a degree...cool!  Make those reds really pop.

It's October! I bring you a spooky fairy flapper:



It's hard to update the old blog consistently when I'm drawing all the time but not for myself. I'm trying to draw more just for funsies but I tend to just go back to the same stuff over and over, like flappers. I could draw flappers til the sun goes down. Maybe I should take requests to mix it up a little. SUGGESTIONS??

I must note that it incredible that I have so many blog followers when I've been so awful at updating. Thanks all you followers!

In other news, I've had to shut down my etsy shop for good. It was becoming very time consuming, and although that's good because it means the shop was overall successful, it can become a big cluster f*$% when you have deadlines for multiple projects whizzing by and also a life. I find that I'm a much more peaceful individual when I'm not packaging orders and responding to e-mails from people asking where their stuff is, and traipsing off to the post office alllll the time.


The Twelve Dancing Princesses is due out in February! You can pre-order it on Amazon.com, but there's no image, so you still can't see what it looks like! Isn't that weird? Who would do that??

How often to you get to hang out in a library and drink? I'm going to guess not that often. I'll have framed, signed, large versions of all those mythological creatures I've done lately for sale. Plus, the library at Occidental is really pretty! It's worth checking out. Even if you can't come on Saturday, you can go look at the stuff later: the show will be up aaaaaalll semester (until December).

Hey, it's Monday! Here's a painting!



It's to big to fit in the scanner. The little chunk that did fit in there didn't even scan right. Blargh!



Because my horrible disappointment of a camera is pretty much a paperweight now, I had to steal Sean's iphone to take these pics (while he was sleeping! in the middle of the night! sneaky!).

rainy day

Way back last January (which feels like just about another lifetime compared to the present) I got an idea to do a painting of a girl walking around in the rain with an umbrella. One BAZILLION years later I finally got around to doing it.



It totally changed from the originally intended version. The only similarities are the girl, the umbrella, and the vertically inclined composition. I didn't get started on this image way back when because in part it really bothered me that I couldn't figure out what was going on with the girl. I didn't know what she was all about, or what the image was supposed to be about for that matter. I had to change it around this much to make it feel right. It's kind of an intangible thing and it looks pretty hokey in writing, but oh well. Sometimes making art is a hokey business.

In other news, Unique LA is this coming weekend and I have sooooo much stuff to do still to get ready for it! So I'm gonna go do that stuff!
